I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with grass stains on my shoes from mowing Sister Schenck's lawn. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbor's children. I want to be there with a little dirl under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived."

Pie Making With The Mackley's! (11~25)

This year making pies was fun! It was Jana's first year getting to make pies with us because she's normally at work. The only bummer was that Cindy wasn't able to be there to help. (we missed you Cindy) Even though I don't eat pie, I have decided that each year I would try and make one. Last year I made a pumpkin chiffon with graham cracker crust, and of course I tried it. It was really pretty good! (for pie) This year I decided to try apple. Now, the biggest reason I don't like pie is because of the crust. I hate it. So I made it with a really thin bottom crust and topped it with the stuff you put on apple crisp. It turned out really good too. Maybe I need to stop making them the way I would actually eat them! Next year I'm not exactly sure what I'll try because I hate the taste of pumpkin and I hate cherries! Humm, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Always, Forever, NO MATTER WHAT said...

I have to agree. It was alot of fun getting together and making pies, and we even got to do it at my house. I agree, we missed Cindy terrably. I sure wish we all still lived in the same county.
