Last night we decided to have bacon, eggs and toast for dinner. When I mixed up the eggs and poured them into the pan I sloshed some down the side and onto the burner. A couple of seconds later my nose flared and I thought,
'Oh, that's awful! But what does that smell like?'
Then I realized.
Boiling brains.
How do I know?
My Dad.
I have the most interesting father in the world! After the deer hunt people all over St. George would give my Dad the hide from their deer. And he would strip it of all it's fur, purchase cow brains from the grocery store, boil them in water, blend them up in the blender and then soak the hide in the pureed brains and water for days. Then he would take it out, work it and stretch it and smoke it over a fire, creating the softest tanned leather you'd ever feel. Softer than some of the softest suede purses you'd find in a store.
I can honestly say that life with my father was never and never will be boring.
I remember spankings that never hurt.
Pretending to be asleep in his bed cause just maybe if I was, he wouldn't move me and I'd get to spend the night between Dad and Mom.
Hunting for arrow heads.
Digging for clay, bringing it home and making clay pots.
Going to Mountain Man Rendezvous and spending the night in tepees.
Hearing his morning salute every morning.
Asking to go to the store and if he'll buy me a candy bar, I'll pike him up one too.
Going on Daddy Daughter dates to see The Little Mermaid and Man of the House (with Jonathan Taylor Thomas aka JTT)
I know that neither of these movies interested my Dad but he took me anyways. Because he wanted to do something I would enjoy.
Now days I know that he is always there if I need someone to talk to, some one to go to dinner with, someone to swing with my daughter in the hammock while she sings all of the songs she knows...over and over and over.... and she only knows like five.
I love this man.

Love Dad
Cute!! I remember that smell too! But I also remember all the good things too. Love ya Dad.
All I can say is dito. There has been times when I have smelled something that reminds me of Dads deer tanning. I can't eat anything that has been smoked. I also love this man very much.
